Week 9 Waiver Wire Wednesday WR Edition

To continue adding to our fantasy football problem fantasy, owners lost a couple key wide receivers in week 8. So lets see what is still left on the waiver wire to get you through week 9.

NOTABLE INJURIES

Keenan Allen (SD) has been place on the Reserved/Injured List after undergoing kidney surgery. This was a hard blow to fantasy owners.

Steve Smith (BAL) suffered a season ending Achilles tendon tear in last weeks game against the Chargers. While Smith is now considering not retiring this year and returning next season, fantasy owners are out to work the waiver wires for a 2015 season long replacement.

Ricardo Lockette (SEA) It was heart wrenching to see Lockette leaving Week 8’s game against the Dallas Cowboys strapped to a stretcher with a neck injury. Head coach Pete Carroll said “there’s no way” that Lockette returns this season. While this may not have impacted many fantasy players we do hope this is not a careen ending injury and wish him a speedy and full recovery.

Kendall Wright (TEN) We think sprained his left MCL He said it feels “horrible” well while Wright was a flex option to many this is bye week plug and play option many were depending on. We’ll stay up to date on this injury closer to game day but it is best to have a back up option on your bench.

John Brown (ARI) crushed fantasy owners in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns because he was active, so fantasy owners started him, but he never saw any time on the field. Brown has a bye week so hopefully it will give him the rest he needs to be able to get back on the field and see some action as he was beginning to lead in team in receiving yards.

So that I have reminded everyone of our painful fantasy problems. Lets take a look at WR WAIVER WIRE TARGETS

Michael Floyd (ARI) I don’t expect Michael Floyd to be available in many leagues and if he is snag him up.The only reason he may still be out there is because fantasy owners tend to drop players like him to get through a bye week thinking no one will snag if they aren’t playing this week. If you can make room for him and he is out there pick him up. We aren’t 100% sure John Brown returns in week 10 healthy, and still, we have seen Michael Floyd put up numbers for fantasy owners in the last three games.

Michael Crabtree (OAK) Another player who I don’t expect to be available in many leagues but still out there in a few. Crabtree has been had a couple great games in a row. Last week Amari Cooper had to be well covered so Crabtree was left to have the opportunity to have a great game and he did. With the way the Raiders are spreading around the ball Crabtree has a solid WR2 upside to him against Pittsburgh this week.

Kamar Aiken (BAL) Now we are getting to players who you can still find on waivers. With Steve Smith is out for the year, this leaves Aiken to step into the #1 wide receiver role. Aiken should be able to put up WR3/Flex role and by default get targets and receptions from Joe Flacco. He is the best option on waivers this week as he will the volume, so I would spend 30-40% of your budget if you are desperate for a WR.

Malcom Floyd (SD) San Diego not only suffered the loss of Keenan Allen for the season, it also looks like Ladarius Green may be out for a while. Malcom Floyd is really the only fully healthy receiver. Last week he took advantage of the injuries against the Ravens poor secondary. Until Phillip Rivers get some health back to his targets, Floyd now has a glimpse of fantasy value.

Marques Colston (NO) before we get crazy about Colston he was one of the many Saints receivers who benefited from the Giants terrible defense. He is more of a depth to your roster option and I wouldn’t pay more than 15% of your waiver wire money for him. He has a great match-up against the Titans this week but as for a season long option he may not be your long term solution.

I know there isn’t much out there on the waiver wires and I can sit here and plug in a bunch of names of players that we wish we could still find but honestly this a realistic approach of what is still out there. Good luck this week and please don’t forget to set your waiver wire picks tonight!
XOXO
